Ryan Smith, Maine
1990 Olds 88 Custom Cruiser Wagon
The "modernization" of Olds is what led to its downfall...produce quality automobiles such as those of the early to mid-eightie (and before), and the success of Olds of this era will be realized again. Buying new (i.e., 2007), the only decent car left is the Grand Marquis and its related Town Car/Crown Vic. GM has totally lost their sense of quality and reality for that matter.
Regards,
Ryan.

It would be great to bring back Oldsmobile but you have to remember who shut it down. The idiots who keep bringing us suburbans, and other gas guzzelers. They don't have a clue. GM stocks value is falling faster than a rock off a cliff. I wouldn't want them to bring it back, they would just be dragging the Oldsmobile name thru the mud. Can you imagine that back when Oldsmobile was still going, if GM had OKed, and given the funding to Oldsmobile to come out with a retro 442, just like Ford did with the Mustang. Ford is having money problems too, but not with the Mustang. I know several chevy guys that bought Mustangs because GM didn't offer anything similar. Thats money that GM could of had. Oh well, yes I'd like to see Oldsmobile come back but GM can't afford it now. Maybe some day in the future. We can only hope!!!

GM, How could you have made this decision. Olds was your proto-type platform. I hope Cadillac can pic up the Pace. Bring back Olds. GM, You will be surprised at how many will join the ranks of Olds ownership again! Tony, Gina & Family

This is partly the reason GM is going under, as well as the new Camaro. Why bring back a classic that hardly looks like its namesake, especially after the success of the current (pre-2010) Mustang. If you didn't know it was the new Camaro, you never would have guessed it. Unfortunately, Ford has made the same mistake with the 2010 Mustang, when buyers were hoping the new Mustang was going to look even more like the '69-'70 models, they made it look like a new car design.
Oh well....if Oldsmobile had just used an Aurora engine in the Alero, and then brought back the 442 name, it would had been one of only two divisions with their own engine in a smaller car, not a GM/Chevy engine....oh yea, and called it a Rocket again, and that it is like your Father's Oldsmobile.
Unfortunately, I think GM had it out for Oldsmobile for a long time, and let it die by not properly marketing the division, as evident when the '80s passed. But I still agree that GM ought to bring back Oldsmobile, still its most noticable marquee after all these years, and phase out Pontiac and Buick, as Oldsmobile's market eclipsed both of these divisions, the "youthful" & "senior" markets, especially since both are essentially reskinned Chevrolets, only one with a conservative look and the other with a sporty (sic) look.
Until Oldsmobile returns to GM, or wherever, I will be purchasing from another company.

Just think what could happen if GM would bring back a retro muscle car that actually looked like the muscle car it represents. The GTO looked like a Grand AM "Woopie!" Firebird/Trans AM were to me, ho hum. The new Camaro really missed the mark! What if a new retro of a 1970 Hurst Olds Cutlass that actually looks like a '70 Cutlass white with gold stripes, the Hurst Olds markings, and a 500+ horse modern Olds Rocket, six speed backed with a posi trac? Wow what a rocket that would be!
